Accessing the Length of Stay Section
To access the Length of Stay section, select the Outcomes Module from the left side of the screen in the navigation menu. The Length of Stay section is the fourth option from the top. Click the arrow on the right side of the screen to expand and view this section. It features three visualizations that chart stay lengths relevant to RI Scores, warnings, and unit types.
Average Length of Stay and Admitting RI
The Average Length of Stay and Admitting RI graph presents the average length of stay (LOS) and averaging admitting RI. The average LOS is precisely computed as the duration between admit and discharge date/time, divided by the number of discharges. If unit and/or Unit Type filters are applied, the calculation adjusts to days between unit entry and exit divided by the count of unit transfers. The average admitting RI serves as a measure of patient condition upon admission. The graph allows the user to assess how patient condition upon admission correlates with the length of stay over time. Hovering over the graph will highlight the line providing the average RI score or LOS.
Average Length of Stay by Highest Warning
The Average Length of Stay by HIghest Warning graph presents the average length of stay based on the patient's highest warning encountered during their stay. The average length of stay is precisely calculated as the duration between admit and discharge date/time, divided by the number of discharges. When Unit and/or Unit Type filters are applied, the calculation adjusts to days between unit entry and exit divided by the count of unit transfers. The graph allows for comparison of the length of stay across the different warning states to help identify areas of opportunity for improvement. Hovering over the graph will highlight the line providing the average LOS for that warning type and time period.
ICU vs Non-ICU Length of Stay
THe ICU vs Non-ICU Length of Stay graph displays the fluctuation in the average length of stay in individual ICUs compared to non-ICU stays. This is calculated by determining the exact number of days between the entry and exit dates of each unit. The calculation involves dividing the days between unit entry and exit by unit transfers. It also showcases the initial valid RI score assigned to a patient upon admission to a unit for ICU and non-ICU stays. Hovering over the graph will highlight the line providing the average length of stays and average first RIs.

This section displays a comprehensive list of patients and their data featured in the Length of Stay visualization. In the top left corner, users can search through this list, while also having the option to download it in Excel or CSV format on the top right side of the screen. The bottom left corner offers controls to adjust the number of patients shown per page, with choices of 10, 25, or 50. Additionally, navigation through the patient list is facilitated by front and back arrows located in the bottom right corner.
Patient RI Graphs
Below the Patient List, the user will find a set of RI graphs corresponding to each patient. The number of graphs displayed is determined by the 'Items per page' setting selected in the patient list above.
Users can customize the display at the top of the RI graphs by selecting the Chart Title menu. The options available for customization include:
- Visit number
- Admission date
- Medical record number
- Patient name
- Full location
- Unit & room
- Room number
- Anonymous
Users can click on a patient's graph to open it in full-screen mode for a larger view. Alternatively, hovering over a patient's graph will provide a concise preview of the patients visit information.
