Underlying Data in Rothman Index
Rothman Analytics is a collection of predefined data visualizations and tabular data sets that allow healthcare organizations to dive into outcomes and measures related to the Rothman Index. RI Analytics provides the ability to control the scope of data within visualizations and lists that help healthcare organizations identify areas of success, as well as areas of opportunity.
RI Analytics provides the capability to assess measures at the discharge level and at the unit level. In addition to providing retrospective analyses, RI Analytics also provides an In-House Dashboard for visualizations based on current patients. There are three different data sets that support the visualizations:
- Discharges
- Unit Transfers
- In-House patients
Discharges
The Discharges data set is the foundation for many of the visualizations within RI Analytics. Encounters are included in the Discharges data set if they meet the following criteria:
- Patient must be discharged.
- The discharge data is earlier than the current date. Discharges that occur on the current data are excluded.
- The patient must have a patient class of "inpatient".
- The patient must have generated at least one valid Rothman Index score during the encounter.
The Discharges data set is the foundation for the following content areas:
- Discharge volume
- Length of Stay
- Mortality
- Readmissions
- Patient search
Unit Transfers
The Unit Transfers data set is used for several specific content areas. Each record in the unit transfers data set represents a patient stay on a unit form unit entry to unit exit. Records in the unit transfers data set meet the following criteria:
- Only stays that are completed are included. Unplanned transfers to the ICU and 24 hour ICU bounce backs are not counted until the patient is transferred out of the ICU.
- The unit exit date is earlier than the current date is earlier than the current date. Transfers out of a unit that occur on the current date are excluded.
- The patient must have a patient class of "Inpatient".
- The patient must have generated at least one valid RI score during the encounter.
The Unit Transfers data set is the foundation for the following content areas:
- Length of stay*
- Unplanned transfers to the ICU
- 24hr ICU bounce backs
Note: *When the unit filter is set to "All", then the data set is used is Discharges. When a specific unit or group of units is selected, then the underlying data set is Unit Transfers.
In-House Patients
The current patients data set is the foundation for the In-House module. Records in the data set meet the following criteria:
- Patients may be any patient class (Inpatient, Observation, Outpatient, Emergency).
- The patient has not yet been discharged.
- The patient may or may not have valid RI score during the encounter.
